A sterling silver mechanical eight day clock. This fabulous simple and elegant piece was made by one of the world's leading luxury silversmiths; Tiffany & Company, now recently acquired by the L.V.M.H group.
This very clean desk or mantle clock is cased in a thick gauge sterling silver. The dial is surrounded by a knurled edged brass ring that helps screw the dial and movement into place on the clock. This contrast in colour and detail frames the dial beautifully. The dial itself is classic, and simple, but very handsome. An applied hand cut brass 3, 6, 9, 12 Arabic numeral configuration is broken up by small and attractive applied ball markers for the remaining hours. The Tiffany & Co. mark is also proudly applied below the 12 in the center of the dial.
The hours are also marked with small, triangular radium luminescent filled markers. The broad 'sword' shape hands are also filled with this same luminescent material, all of which has toned into a beautiful colour over time. Behind the dial is a Swiss made eight day clock movement, which once fully wound will power the clock for up to eight days.
On the base of the frame are a wonderful full set of Tiffany & Co. marks with registration numbers and reference number, along with the 'L' initial. This allows the piece to be dated for production under the stewardship of William T. Lusk, who was head of Tiffany between 1956-1965. The clock is in superb condition throughout, and fully functional. Circa date of 1950's, made in America.
