A Dunhill table lighter in brass with an agate body. This classic petrol lift arm lighter model was introduced by Dunhill in 1928 and remained very much a strong part of the collection until the switch to gas in the 1960's. This example is a 1950's piece that saw the introduction of agate bodies to the table lighters. This made them very stable on a surface, and very tactile in the hand. they take on a more sculptural appeal and are a decorative object in themselves. The body is a 'watermelon' style agate, with fine vivid pink inclusions running through the green body. The base and top lift arm mechanism are all made of solid brass. There is slight signs of wear to the brass, but it is not distracting at all, and the lighter itself has barely been used. The agate itself is in perfect condition, and retains a beautiful gloss finish. To fill the lighter, simply unscrew the center piece on the base and fill with conventional lighter fuel. The piece sparks well, and is in perfect working order. The lighter was made in England circa 1950's.
